We will work on several funded research projects on extending, developing, and evaluating large language models in STEM learning contexts (e.g., Khan Academy’s Khanmigo). I am looking for candidates with the preferred qualifications below:
- Proficient in Python, PyTorch, JAX
- Strong foundations in large language models and traditional machine learning
- Experience with full-stack development
- Good communication and writing skills in English
A solid background in engineering and high self-motivation are the most important attributes I am looking for. As long as you are a good problem-solver, and are highly self-motivated, I trust that you can learn the above skills eventually and I will also help you learn.
What I can offer
- Highly competitive salary in the field, plus tuition and insurance waiver
- State-of-the-art computational resources (32 A100s and 8 H100s)
- Educational big data
- Hands-on research and development experience with multi-million dollar projects, funded by federal and foundational grants
- Domestic and international travel support
- Networking with prestigious researchers from Vanderbilt, Stanford, and Duke
I will provide technical and theoretical ideas and directions. My lab houses one post-doctoral researcher and one doctoral student in learning sciences. They can help you with the educational theory part if you are not familiar with it, yet, so that you can focus more on the technical part.
